The Start:

When we received this project I was really lost. I guess I just wasn't sure about the concept of the project. Then when I looked at the ways we could execute the project that completely sent me for a spin. I couldn’t get over the idea of a performance piece; that is possibly the scariest idea I could ever imagine. I thought to myself, I can hardly stand up in front of a class and give a presentation let alone stand in front of tons of people I don’t know and do a performance piece. Then I looked at the idea of community gatherings and installation and with that I started to get a few ideas.
I’ve always been interested in learning about people that I meet in life, like where they come from, what they have been through, and what they like and don’t like and why. So I took that and decided I wanted to do something dealing with people or more or less with community. Then I started thinking about who or what makes up a community? Specifically who makes up the community of New Paltz. I thought about this because New Paltz is a really small town compared to where I come from. Then I started thinking about how much the college makes up a big portion of this community and how students come and go all the time and how much the “people of New Paltz” change. I also thought about how we make this place our home while we are here and when we leave what will remain of us who have left? So with that this is how my project started…
